As I sat down to review the results of my own efforts to generate business within the FSBO market, I realized two things that startled me:

1. I was spending far too much time selling to FSBO's

2. More than 40 days of working my fingers to the bone, I had only 1 "so-so" quality lead

Sorry, those aren't the type of results I had imagined when I first set out to increase the size of my paycheck! This was a bit on the disturbing side to me. I wanted to make more money, but I felt like everything I was doing up to this point was just wasting a bunch of time. Calculating the hours invested along with the money that I may have earned if that "so-so" quality lead closed; my per hour earnings barely exceeded $10 per hour.

Clearly something had to be done. But what? In order to provide an answer to this question, I first had to look at why my efforts were not paying off. Let's fast forward our story here a bit to show you what several weeks of research and introspection revealed:

1. Everyone calling the FSBO's were making the exact same claims and the exact same offers

2. The marketing campaign required far too much manual labor on my part (18 - 20+ hours per week to cover the basics)

3. Stronger calls to action were needed (There was nothing drawing them back to me after the initial discussion)

4. I had no credibility. Why should they believe me? How could they trust that I was truly an expert?

So what did I do to climb my way back out of this hole?

Goal #1 - I needed something unique, something that would get attention

Solution: I created a website that I could send  FSBO prospects to instead of using the tired, carbon-copy script and approach everyone else used.

This worked great! I didn't have to be pushy, or stink of commission breath! It was rather simple (I'm tempted to use the word "Easy" here) to get most of these prospects to visit my website, because it was all about them! The site I created was called "St Louis FSBO Help." Hmmm. do you think the name of the site might have captured their interest? It accomplished this and far more as you'll see in a moment.

Goal #2 - I needed something that would establish me as an expert, and build credibility.

Solution: Once again, the focused "FSBO only" website came to the rescue. This site was set up to be the ultimate FSBO resource. This was a veritable dream for anyone who was selling, or even just thinking of selling their home By Owner.

I found this to be an excellent way to establish myself as an expert without making a bunch of wild claims. People want to SEE your expertise, not hear about it. This was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate expertise through action. (It didn't hurt that I barely had to lift a finger since the site did most of the work)

Goal #3 - I needed something that would save me time

Solution: The FSBO specialty site was a life-saver when it came to my prospecting efforts. It was set up with a lead capture mechanism, auto-responder, and value-added content.
